What to Expect

At Cross Connection we value being led by Holy Spirit in every part of life.

We do not claim to do this perfectly, but we are committed to doing it passionately.

Our worship gatherings emphasize this pursuit. As Holy Spirit manifests Himself among us we often see expressions or responses to His Presence that may be unfamiliar to some.

You may experience some of these things at Cross Connection:

  • RAISED HANDS: Hands extended or raised toward God is a sign of respect, worship, approval, and surrender. We see this throughout scripture as a practice of God’s people. (Exodus 29:22-28; Leviticus 23:20; Psalm 28:2, 63:4, 134:2; 1 Timothy 2:8)
  • EXPRESSIONS OF WORSHIP: Often response to the Presence of the Lord is seen in visible physical expressions. This may include: CLAPPING (Psalm 47:1) DANCING (2 Samuel 6:14; Psalm 149:3, 150:4) SHOUTING/LOUD VOICE (Psalm 32:11, 35:27, 47:1, 98:4; Galatians 4:27; Revelation 5:11,12) JUMPING (Acts 3:6-9) CRYING (Psalm 40:1, 88:2)
  • SPEAKING IN UNKNOWN LANGUAGES: On and after the day of Pentecost in Acts 2 the people of God throughout the New Testament have been known to speak/pray/worship in unknown languages (often called tongues). Examples include: SPEAKING (Acts 2:4, 10:44-46, 19:5,6) PRAYING (1 Corinthians 14:15) SINGING/WORSHIPING (1 Corinthians 14:15; Ephesians 5:18,19) — [“In the Spirit” is biblical terminology for tongues 1 Corinthians 14:2]
  • PRAYING FOR PEOPLE BY LAYING HANDS ON THEM: We believe in praying for people according to scripture. (1 Timothy 4:14; James 5:14-15)
  • SPONTANEOUS WORSHIP: Moments in our worship service where the Holy Spirit inspires words that have not previously been planned. (Colossians 3:16)
  • PROPHECY: Often it is thought that prophecy is a negative declaration that comes from God. While there are biblical examples of this, we also see that there are many examples from scripture that are more positive. (Acts 21:8,9; Romans 12:6; 1 Corinthians 12:10; 1 Timothy 4:14) Prophetic words are given to convey a message from the Holy Spirit to a person. These words are most often uplifting and encouraging. (1 Corinthians 12:7 NLT)
  • WAVE OF EMOTION: Often in our services, people encounter a wave of emotion. This wave of emotion is a human response to an encounter with God. Our church services are designed to be dynamic, however, we do not take credit for producing this wave of emotion. It is the grace and goodness of God’s presence that gives rise to it. (Psalm 16:11; Acts 8:4-8; Romans 14:17, 15:13)
  • GIVING: Our church family is characterized by a heart of giving. Sometimes this giving is planned and at other times people spontaneously give to one another as God directs. We believe the Holy Spirit directs people to give time, talent, and treasure to bless others. (2 Corinthians 8,9)
